1. Illicit substances torched to mark National Day Against Drugs
A massive quantity of illicit drugs was burnt at Don Chan Square in Vientiane yesterday to mark the 16th Anniversary of the National Day Against Drugs. Illicit drugs that went up in smoke on the day included over 13.4 million amphetamine tablets, 2,382 kg of dried cannabis, 93 kg of crystal methamphetamine (ya ice), 259 kg of Rhodiarome, 4,312 kg of caffeine, 272 kg of chemical precursor used to mix and produce drugs and 12 boxes of an unidentified red powder. . . 2. Govt pledges fairer compensation
The government has pledged to offer fairer compensation for properties of local people impacted and displaced by domestic and foreign investment projects. 5. Laos celebrates World Food Day
Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and the UN to Laos yesterday celebrated World Food Day on October 16 and International Day and National Week for Poverty Eradication from October 17-24.
A celebration ceremony took place at the National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute (NAFRI) in Vientiane with an associated exhibition highlighting various agricultural and forest products. More >>>
